Induction Stress Relieving Equipment

Machining and welding leave internal tension in a part — left untreated, it grows with size and complexity until it cracks. Stress relieving removes it before that happens.

Controlled heat before and after the operation that caused the stress

Stress relief is the controlled application of heat, before and/or after deformation or machining, to improve metallurgical structure and prevent residual stress from forming or persisting. Machining and welding both introduce internal tension into a workpiece — tension that gets worse as parts get larger and more complex, and can eventually cause cracking or structural failure if left unaddressed.

We offer both integral stress relief (the whole part) and localized stress relief (just the affected zone), with temperature, heating duration, and cooling rate all tuned to the specific material.

Precision where a furnace can't be selective

  • Integral or localized treatment, your choice per part
  • Temperature and duration tuned to the specific material
  • Regulated cooling to lock in the improved structure
  • Prevents cracking risk on large or complex parts

Common questions about this process

When is stress relieving needed?

Whenever machining or welding has introduced internal tension into a part. Left untreated, that tension grows with part size and complexity and can eventually cause cracking or structural failure.

What's the difference between integral and localized stress relief?

Integral stress relief treats the whole part; localized stress relief treats just the affected zone. Inductech offers both, with temperature, duration, and cooling rate tuned to the specific material.

Is stress relieving done before or after machining?

Both, depending on the application — controlled heat can be applied before and/or after deformation or machining to manage the metallurgical structure and prevent residual stress from forming.

Post-weld or post-machining cracking risk?

Send us the part and process — we'll spec the stress-relief cycle before it becomes a failure.
